Walt Disney developed the Fantasound technology, incorporating four distinct channels. The sound was diffused throughout the cinema and controlled by engineers using approximately 54 speakers. However, the widespread adoption of the Fantasound system was hindered by its prohibitive cost, as it necessitated additional equipment for installation.

Immersive sound, as we recognize it today, is commonly acknowledged to have originated in 1957 when musician and artist Henry Jacobs organized with the artist Jordan Belson the Vortex Concerts at the Morrison Planetarium in San Francisco. These events are widely considered to be the pioneering instances of surround sound usage.

Two decades later,  Dolby Stereo Surround made its way into films such as Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner. These emerging formats played a crucial role in bringing surround sound to cinemas, elevating the auditory experience for movie enthusiasts.
