The importance of acoustic design in home cinema

The owners of this home cinema in Shanxi, China wanted to install a room that gave them the best possible audio and visual experience.

Acoustic design as the foundation for a good home cinema

The client knew the importance of acoustic room treatment so no effort was spared in the design and build of the theater. The walls are around 80 cm thick with proper acoustic treatment. Sound isolation includes a custom soundproof, locked door, which ensures that the space outside the cinema is not being disturbed, even when a movie is playing loudly. The room is large and includes an abundance of acoustic treatment modules. By absorbing sound, the acoustic panels minimize sound reflections within the space and create an ideal acoustic environment. These considerations formed the foundation in the initial design stage of the home cinema, achieving the homeowners’ dream cinema experience.

A seamless soundscape

The room is around 50 metres squared with a 200-inch THX acoustic screen. There are four subwoofers, with two in the front and two in the back. Being that the ceiling speakers are smaller than the surrounds, the installer chose our StormAudio ISP Elite sound processor. Indeed, the ISP allowed him to manage the seamless transition of the sounds of all the speakers. Especially with Dirac Live Bass Control and our Bass Management, the completely immersive soundstage created throughout the room delivered an experience that was even better than what the client imagined.
